Privacy policy

Your data, plainly told.

Forecourt is an independent vehicle-data site. We have tried to collect as little about you as possible — there are no accounts, no sign-ups and no marketing. This page explains what little we do handle and the rights you have over it under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

Who we are

Forecourt is the data controller for the limited information described below. You can reach us about anything on this page at info@usedcarstats.co.

What we collect — and what we don't

We do not ask you for your name, email address or any other personal detail, and we do not sell or share data with advertisers. The valuation and comparison tools run on figures you enter (registration year, mileage, and similar) — those are used to calculate a result in your browser and are not stored against your identity.

Two limited categories of data are involved in running the site:

Analytics. If — and only if — you choose "Accept all" on the cookie banner, we load Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation enabled. It tells us, in aggregate, how many people visit and which pages are popular. If you decline, no analytics are loaded. See our cookie policy for the detail.

Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps standard, short-lived request logs (IP address, browser type, page requested) for security and reliability. This is ordinary infrastructure logging, not profiling.

Who processes data for us

Vercel hosts the site and generates the server logs above. Google Analytics provides the optional, consent-gated analytics. Car images are served from Wikimedia Commons, so viewing a page may send a standard request to Wikimedia's servers. Each of these providers operates under its own privacy terms.

Legal basis

Analytics are processed on the basis of your consent, which you give or withhold through the cookie banner and can change at any time. Security and operational logging is processed on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the site available and secure.

How long we keep it

Analytics data is retained for the period set in Google Analytics (we use the shortest practical setting). Server logs are kept only briefly by our host before being rotated out. The cookie-consent choice itself lives in your browser until you clear it.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct or erase personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to data portability. Because we hold so little — and nothing that identifies you by name — most requests are straightforward; contact us at the address above and we will help. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will appear on this page. Material changes will be noted on the site.

This is a general privacy notice, not legal advice — if Forecourt grows to handle more data, have it reviewed by a professional.
